Why Grip Quality Matters
Worn-out or slippery rubber grips aren’t just annoying, they’re a safety hazard. Whether Cardio or Strength gym equipment, a secure grip:
- Prevents accidents (e.g., slipping mid-use).
- Reduces hand fatigue (ergonomic designs absor shock).
- Improves control (grips enhance precision).
- Enhances member experience (touch point on the equipment)
- Improves appearance of machine (clean grips look appealing).
Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right Rubber Grip
We recommend matching the same material grip the machine has as it will maintain a uniform look throughout your equipment:
- Material
- Natural rubber: Softer, grippier, but less durable.
- Synthetic (TPU/PVC/Nitrile): Oil-resistant, longer lifespan.
- Sizing
“Measure your handle’s diameter with calipers before purchasing.”

Installation Tips: How to Replace Grips Properly
Method 1: Slip-On Grips
- Clean the handle (remove old adhesive with rubbing alcohol).
- Use a hair spray as lubricant and glue for the grip.
- Slide on and let set for a snug fit.
NB: We have found that some grips have been incorrectly fitted using grease or other lubricants, this overtime dissolves the rubber reducing the lifespan and can leach out of the open ends of the grip, these will require a lot more effort and rubbing alcohol to prepare the handle for the new grip.
Maintenance: Extend the Life of Your Grips
Overtime the grips absorb sweat and oil from the hand, and it can leach out in the form of and oily residue on the grip:
- Cleaning: Mild soap + water (avoid harsh chemicals).
- Storage: Keep away from direct sunlight (prevents cracking).
- When to Replace: Cracks, Splits, peeling, Bagging, Twisting or loss of Grip to bar.
Final Tip:
Consider grip tape as a temporary fix for worn areas.
